Venture Scotland offers an outdoor-based personal development programme which works with vulnerable young people aged 16-30 who face complex and difficult problems. We build the confidence and skills of young people and aim to empower each individual we work with to make positive and lasting changes in their lives and play a positive role in their communities.
The course is split into four modules: Challege, Discover, Explore and Leader. Each involves regular and frequent one-to-one support, structured group work and mentoring sessions aimed at addressing key areas of personal and social development, including communication skills, confidence, attitude, responsibility, problem solving and teamwork.
We believe that by helping a young person to increase their capacity in these areas, we can enable them to tackle the barriers that are holding them back and help them to build a positive future. The amount of regular contact our programme enables between our staff, volunteers and young people enable strong bonds to be formed where young people's behaviour can be challenged in a supportive environment.
Venture trust uses the outdoor environment as a tool to elicit change in young people. Young people are supported by an Outreach Worker within the community who will build a relationship with and prepare them to attend an 8-day wilderness journey in the Scottish Highlands with a maximum group size of 12 participants.
Following this intensive Wilderness Journey, where young people will be involved in various outdoor and personal development focused activates (including goal-setting, action planning and group roles) their Outreach Worker will re-engage and support them for a period of up to 12 months. The main focus of this phase of the programme is to support the young person into appropriate further education, training, volunteering and employment opportunities.
WorkingRite, in partnership with Glen Oaks, New Gorbals,
Sanctuary, Rosehill and Southside housing associations
deliver a work-based training programme for
young people struggling to find work by themselves.
We individually match each young person to a
small or medium sized business for a work
placement lasting around 16 weeks.
Trainees are matched carefully according to their
interests, personality and abilities. All our young
people receive on-the-job training, mentoring, a
weekly training allowance and on-going support.
In partnership with the Dumbarton Road Corridor Youth Project (DRC), the Project will provide over 100 young people from across North West Glasgow with initial engagement sessions with the DRC Youth Engagement team followed by a tailored induction and mentored work placement of up to twelve weeks with WorkingRite Project Coordinators.
The Pathfinder Project is an 18 month project (2016-18), funded through the Integrated Grant Fund (IGF). It is the largest project of its kind in North West Glasgow. The grant was provided with the intention of reducing the level of offending and is part of the North West Sector Youth Employment Programme. This has furthered our expertise in working with those young people ‘most at risk’.

We work with Schools and Councils to provide a 'learning by doing' approach to assist young people. By doing so we aim to allow the students grow and flourish in our learnign environment. We base our learning on Enterprise. Many skills can be learnt by using Enterprise as the framework to do so. Our programmes are very flexible depening on the needs of the young people.
In addition to the practical workshops - the learners will enhance their employability skills, organisational and communication skills using the Enterprise Life and Work Programme delivered by Young Enterprise Scotland.
