Glasgow Guarantee is an initiative delivered by Glasgow City Council to provide employment opportunities and support local businesses to grow thereby increasing the prosperity of the Glasgow City economy.

The Glasgow Guarantee offers support to people who fall into the below categories:

    Age 16-19
  • Must be aged 16-19
  • Must reside within the Glasgow City Council postcode boundary or have attended a Glasgow City Council secondary school
  • Must be eligible to leave school
  • Must be currently unemployed (or be working less than 16 hours per week)
    Age 20+
    Graduates
  • Must be aged 20-29
  • Must have attained a degree/post-graduate degree within the last 12 months
  • Must currently reside within the Glasgow City Council postcode boundary
  • Must be currently unemployed OR underemployed (i.e. not in graduate level employment)

  • Non-Graduates
  • Must be aged 20-29 or 50+/ OR must be an Armed Forces Veteran registered with Glasgow's Helping Heroes
  • Must be currently unemployed (or working less than 16 hours per week)
  • Must currently reside within the Glasgow City Council postcode boundary

Glasgow Guarantee can offer your business :

  • Help with the wage costs of recruiting a young person (16-19 category above) together with financial assistance towards the training element
  • Help to recruit workless adults (20+ category above)
  • Help to advertise and recruit a suitable candidate to meet your business needs from a wide pool of candidates registered with Glasgow Guarantee

To be eligible for support your business must:

  • Be based within the Glasgow City Council postcode boundary
  • Employ less than 250 people

Further, the job offer must:

  • Pay a minimum of £4.10 per hour for Modern Apprenticeships (Age 16-19)
  • Pay a percentage of the Glasgow Living Wage* for a Job with Training (Age 16-19)
  • Pay the Glasgow Living Wage* for candidates age 20+ (non-graduates)
  • Pay a minimum wage of £8.79ph (£16,000pa based on 35 hours per week) for graduate level roles
  • Be new and additional to your business
  • Be a minimum of 25 hours per week to a maximum of 35 hours per week
  • Provide the employee with the same contract of employment as all other employees

*The Glasgow Living wage was launched in March 2009. It sets a new guaranteed minimum standard of income for workers set at £7.85 per hour as of 1st April 2015. As of April 1st 2017 this is £8.45.
